MedTech Founders Risks
Development challenges.
Most MedTech founders think their biggest risk is technical. In the early days, I would have said the same thing.
💡Can we make it work?
💡Can we hit the performance targets?
💡Can we generate the data?
Those questions matter. But after watching a lot of device programs evolve, I've noticed something else. The projects that get delayed aren't usually stopped by a lack of innovation. They're slowed down by decisions that seemed small at the time.
❎ A material choice that creates supply chain challenges.
❎ A design feature that's difficult to manufacture consistently.
❎ An assumption that nobody tested because the team was focused on something "more important."
None of those decisions feels critical in the moment. Six months later, they can become the entire project. One thing I've learned is that speed in MedTech isn't about moving faster. It's about uncovering risks earlier. The founders who do this well aren't necessarily better engineers. They're usually just willing to ask uncomfortable questions sooner.
What risk are you actively trying to eliminate right now?
